Afcon countdown: Profile of Group C.....by Jemea Teke Ndumbe


Group C is made up of Senegal, Algeria, Kenya and Tanzania.

Senegal:

The taranga lions consolidated their place at the summit of group A with 16points ahead of Madagasca with 10points, Eq. Guinea and Sudan with 6 and 3points respectively.

Through out the qualifiers they recorded 5wins and 1draw scoring 12 conceding to in the course.

This will be their 15th appearance as their greatest impact in the tournament was in the 2002 edition in Mali when they finished runners up to Cameroon in the final.


Coach Aliou Cisse will rely on their wonder boy Sadio Mane, Rennes Mbaye Niang who scored 3goals in the qualifiers, Mousa Kanote, Napoli's defense back wire Kalilou Koulibali and Everton's Idrissa Gana Gueye to defend the West african giants.

Algeria:

The desert foxes won their group with 11points, Benin 10points, the Gambia 6 and Togo 5 points.

This will be their 18th appearance in the tournament and will be hoping to grap their second crown after winning their first on home soil in 1990.

Djamel Belmadi will rely on 2016 african player of the year Riyan Mahrez as their key man, forward Baghdad Bounedjah who 3goals during the qualifiers and Mehdi Abeid to defend the North African giants.

 Kenya:

The Harrambe stars qualified as runners up in group F with 7point behind Ghana with 9points, Ethiopia 1points and Sierra Leone sanctioned after two games.

This will be their 6th appearance and they are yet to cross the group stage of the competition.

Sebastien Migne will rely on Tottenham's Victor Wanyama as the main man of his team, Kashiwa Reysol, Michael Olunga and Eric Johanna Omondi as key troops to defend the East Africans.


Tanzania:

The taifa stars finished vice with 8points behind their great lake neighbours Uganda with 13points, Lesotho and Cape Verde with 6 and 5 points respectively.

This is their second appearance in the competition as they last played in the competition 39years ago. They are yet to cross the group stage.

Emmanuel Amuneke will rely on  26year old Genk forward Ally Samatta, Simba Fc's Erasto Nyoni and Azam defender Morris Aggrey Ambros who is 35years old and 34year old Kelvin Yondani Shomari to defend the great lake nation.
