Afcon countdown: Profile of group B...by Jemea Teke Ndumbe


Group B of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations is made up of Nigeria, Guinea conakary, Madagasca and Burundi.

Nigeria:

The super eagles qualified as group winners in group E with 13 points ahead of South Africa with 12points, Liberia and Seychelles with 7 and 1 points respectively. They recorded 4wins, 1draw and 1 loss.

Nigeria will be participating in their 18th Afcon and have managed to win the tournament 3 times in 1980,1994 and 2013.

Gernot Rohr will rely on Odion Igalo who scored 7 goals in the qualifiers, John Obi Mikel of Middlesbrough, Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City and Leon Balogun to defend the colours of Nigeria.


 Madagasca:

Nicknamed the Barea finished runners up in their group with 10points behind Senegal with 16points, Eq. Guinea and Sudan with 6 and 3 points respectively.The Barea recorded 3wins, 1draw and 2 loses. This is their first Afcon appearance in their history.

Nicolas Dupuis will rely on star man Faneva Ima Andriantsima who scored 3goals in the qualifiers, Al- Adalh's forward Charles Carols Andriamatsinoro and Njiva Tsilavina Martin to defend the colours of the india ocean island.


 Guinea Conakry:

The country of Sekou Toure emerged as group H winners with 12points ahead of the Cote d' voire with 11points, Central Africa Rep and Rwanda with 6 and 2 points respectively.

This is Guinea's 12 appearance in the afcon with their greatest impact coming at the 1970 edition in Ethiopia which they finished runners up to Morocco.

Paul Put will rely on champions league winner Naby Keita, Ibrahima Cisse of Fulham, Auxiere's Mohamed Lamine and Bordeaux's Francois Kamano who scored three goals in the qualifiers to defend the country of Sekou Toure.


Burundi:

Burundi finished runners up in their group with 10points. They were unbeaten through out the qualifiers with 2wins and 4draws. This will be their first ever afcon appearance in their history.

Coach Alain Olivier Niyungeko will depend on Stoke City's Saido Berahino, top scorer in the qualifiers Fiston Abdul Razak with 6goals and Cedric Amissi from Taawoun Fc with three goals.
