Afcon countdown: Profile of group A...by Jemea Take Ndumbe


Group A of the 2019 afcon is made up of host Egypt, DR Congo, Zimbabwe and Uganda.

Egypt: nicknamed the Pharaohs are making their 24th appearance in the tournament.

They qualified as runners up in group J behind Tunisia. Through out the qualifiers, they recorded 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss harvesting 13 points under head coach Javier Aguirre Onaidia.


 The seven time champions of Africa will be depending on uefa champions league winner Moh Salah and Nagrid Basyou as their main troops to deliver the goods.

DR Congo:

DR Congo qualified as runners up in group G with its summit colonized by Zimbabwe. The Leopards recorded 2 wins, 3draws and 1 loss. Scored 8 goals and conceded 6 with 9points to their credit. This will be their 19th appearance in the afcon winning the competition twice in 1968 &1974.

Coach Jean - Florent Ikwange will rely on captain Yousouf Molumbu, china based striker Cedric Bakambu, Andelecht winger Yannick Balasie and FC Porto defense back wire Mangulu Mbemba to defend the colours of the former belgian colony.

Zimbabwe:

The worriors won their group with 3wins, 2draws and 1loss recording 11points in the process.

This is their fouth appearance in the afcon as they are yet to cross the group stage.

Coach Sunday Marimo Chidzambwa will rely on 28 year old Knowledge Musona and Kaizer Chief's Khama Billiant who joint scored 8 goals in the qualifiers.


Uganda:

The cranes won the summit of their group with 13points recording 4wins , 1 draw and 1 defeat.

This is their seventh appearance in the tournament and finished  runners up in the 1978 edition.

Coach Sebastien Desabre will rely on Denis Oyongo, 21year old Farouk Miya who scored three in the qualifying face and plays professional football in Croatia and Tanzania base Emmanuel Arnold Okwi to guide the great lake nation to success.
