Afcon 2019: Preview of Egypt vs Zimbabwe....by Jemea Teke Ndumbe


 The 2019 afcon kicks off in less than 24hours as host Egypt clash with Zimbabwe at the Cairo international Stadium  on Friday June 21 2019 @21:00.

Egypt will be playing Zimbabwe, DR Congo and Uganda in the group stage. Egypt have played these 3teams 8times winning 7 and losing 1.


The pharaohs have never lost against week opponents and they have conceded just one goal accross 4 fixtures.

Egypt have reached the final in their last 4afcons and have lost just one game in 25games which was the final in 2017 loss to Cameroon, won 18, drawn 6.

Zimbabwe are yet to keep a cleansheet in their last 9 afcon matches and have finished bottom in their last 3 afcon tournaments.

Egypt have won their last 4meetings with Zimbabwe but overall both teams have met 14times with Egypt having a lion share of the wins with 8wins, the warriors with 2 wins and 4draws.



Going into this game,  Egypt have lost just one of their 6previous games winning 4 and 1draw. Zimbabwe on their part have recorded 3wins,2draws and 1loss.

Head coach Javier Aguirre will rely on liverpool's Moh Salah as their key striker. The forward scored 22goals in 3256minutes and 8 assist for the Reds this season. Also; captain Nagrig and Basyoun will be key players in the Egyptian squared.

Though the worriors are under dogs, they too have some nuclear weapons in their keeping as striker Knowledge Musona who scored 5 in the qualifiers and Khama Billiat with three goals will be traits to the Egyptian defense.

Mondi Kagawa is a professional footballer with the Cameroon professional football  league.  He currently ply his trade with Public works department ( PWD) , a division one outfit from the North west regional capital of Cameroon.
