Yaounde, why are you scattered? By Romeo Nkenyi
Public disorder is very conspicuous in the city of Yaounde, capital of Cameroon especially in the evenings.
Unlike elsewhere, where political capitals and even the country at large are evaluated from the pictures that one gets from the nation's capital central town, down town Yaounde popularly known as poste centrale in French isn't the case.
Central town Yaounde is converted in to an open sphere Business Centre, as from 5pm every day. Here outdated books are commonly sold by a good number of youths. Some of them are students in state owned universities or graduates from diverse universities within the town.
"We sell every evening here because business is very easy. We make more profits given that most people heading home can easily purchase an item they forgot buying, while in office" some vendors say.
Some goods sold at this popular area are stolen reason why they are given out at lower prices.
Apart from books, School bags and shoes are also famous at sales at "poste centrale'
This public disorder has often been a major headache to the urban council because, most often bandits have invaded the sector.
Cameroon is expect to reach emergence by 2035, but the greatest challenge of the state now is on how to fine tune measures to curb public disorder.
