Society :Yaounde streets comfort Mad Men... By Romeo Nkenyi and Fabove Gael
The presence of madmen is becoming questionable in Cameroon's political capital.
These mentally derailed persons are found in renowned neighborhoods like Down Town Yaounde,Awarda neighborhood and the Nlongkak roundabout.
The presence of these neglected people is offen a danger to the society.Some cause accidents while crossing the road while angered ones beat up passer bys meslesly.
The mentally derailed persons are mostly adults, with men dominating in number.
These mad people feed on garbage littered at road junctions. Meanwhile many of them have converted the Yaounde central town in to a sleeping arena.
They are accompanied here by street children who beg money from the denizens. These kids are between the ages of 6 and 17,and a majority of them hail from the Northern regions of the country.
"We migrated from the North to Yaounde and we are sent here to look for ends means by our disabled and poor parents", The children revealed to RNNR reporter.
Most of the youngers speak broken French and are comfortable in communicating in their local northern languages.
These categories of persons are supposed to be taken care off by the Ministry of Social Affairs Because most of them are abandoned by their various families.
In Cameroon, little or no attention is given to these class of people either by the state or individuals , like it is seen else where.
