Society: sanitary conditions of meat sales in Yaounde, what a mess.... By Fabove Gael
Going round the Mvogbi market as well as other markets in Yaounde, it is normal to fine young men and and weman selling cow meat on wheelbarrows and tray.
The meat is expose to sun light,as well as flies who takes the meat as their resting place. While dust is not left out and clients manipulate the meat carelessly with their hand.
The vendors look unkept and wear no lab coat . The meat is sold under deplorable conditions which can be dangerous to the consumer's health.
The question that runs through the minds of many is; are veterinary agents doing their job? thus the vendors have their medical booklets and an authorisation from the Ministry of Livestock that grant them the name butchers?
What are the sanctions that such a vendor can face?
Dr Awongsang Lohga is a Delegate of livestock in Foumbot subdivision, in the West region .He says..." Those who are involve in such activities can face sanctions like the seizure of the meat and a find of 50,000frs and above, with about 1month to 3months imprisonment...".
The law remains applicable on every unqualify meatman and even on quolify butchers who do not ensure hygiene in the domain.
