The thirty days of fasting and prayers by the Muslim community has kicked off today, Monday, 06,05,2019.
Ramadan is a period of prayers and fasting in the Muslim community. It varies between 29 and 30 days.
Muslims believe that the gates of heaven are opened during this period, unlike the gates of hell .
Allah exalts all prayers during this period.
"During this season, both men and women are supposed to fast from 4:30am to 7pm" Salifou,ba Muslim student in SIANTOU university told RNNR.
According to Ilham Farihatou, girls who have started witnessing their monthly flows will have to fast as well.
During this time, boys and men visit the mosque five times a day.
" women are not exempted from visiting the mosque as many think", Nuriya Alilum, a Muslim faithful told RNNR.
A Muslim can travel to Mecca during this moment for "ummrah" if chanced. This is part of fasting programme.
The thirty days of fasting are subdivided into 3 (10days). Each of the ten days are dedicated to a particular practice.
The last ten days are meant for forgiveness.
The end of the Ramadan season is characterized by merry making. This as Muslims invite friends and neighbors of diverse religious backgrounds to join them in the celebration.
