24 hours after Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement from the national team, Ghana president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo urged Gyan to reverse his decision to retire from the national team.
Eugene Arhim the director of communication at the presidency in Ghana confirmed the president had a lengthy telephone chat with the striker telling him to reverse his decision to retire from the national team and make himself available for selection by coach Kwesi Appiah.
The director of communication at the presidency also explained that the president's intension to convince the player was for peace and unity.
The president on Tuesday afternoon was also forced to reach out to the technical team of the black stars, the chair of management committee, the president of GFA Normalization committee and the minister for youth and sports.
In the meeting with these officials, they discussed Ghana's preparations towards afcon and how to end Ghana's long wait for an afcon trophy since 1982. The president also asked the circumstances behind Gyan's retirement from the team.
It should be noted that Gyan's retirement came at a time when he was stripped off his captaincy and that he was not going to play a key role in Ghana's afcon adventure this year.
